Why we recharge our phone 13 times a year: Govt asks telcos to opt for 30-day plans
Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that all telecom operators have complied with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India directive mandating the accessibility of 30-day plans.
The government urges telecom operators to introduce 30-day plans, aiming to simplify billing cycles and reduce the need for frequent mobile recharges throughout the year.
Raghav Chadha said that the 28-day recharge plans India must be scrapped. He urges the telecom companies to present standardised 30-day or one-month validity for all monthly recharge packs.
The Centre is expected to push the telecom operators to more keenly endorse their 30-day recharge plans to get better consumer awareness. A day after Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha flagged that 'monthly' recharge plans come with a validity of 28 days and encourage users to recharge their phone 13 times a year.
As per the report shared, Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia telecom said telecom service providers have been urged to promote their 30-day plans a little more, although the practice is already prevailing.
The minister said the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has undoubtedly mandated that the bundle of plans that any operator comes out with should have “a one-time plan, a custom plan, and all three categories of plans that have a 30-day plan”.
The Scindia said, adding that the regulator’s order is being complied with by all the operators. “I cannot say to you that you only need to have a 30-day plan...But in that bouquet, you must have a 30-day plan”.
In 2022, Trai issued a tariff order, compelling all operators to present at least one 30-day plan in each group of prepaid vouchers: special tariff vouchers, plan vouchers, and combo vouchers.
The order aimed to give users a good choice to the prevalent 28-day recharge plans, which effectively necessary recharge 13 times a year.
He even advised that 28-day recharge plans must be discontinued and that the telecom operators must give standardised 30-day or one-month validity for all monthly recharge plans.
